So over the past two months, I have had two Real Life vs. Blog encounters.
About a month ago I was at a dance when a young lady came up to me and asked if I had gotten married recently. I told her I had, and assumed she was a follow that The Husband knew that I hadn't met. This happens fairly regularly as The Husband goes dancing much more often than I do and has a wider circle of dance friends, plus I often don't meet the follows at a dance so I know a lot more leads. But this was not the case. She wasn't a dancer (this was her first night trying it) and said she recognized me from my wedding photos on my photographer's blog. She said my wedding looked like so much fun that she and her friends decided to try swing dancing. What a compliment!
Then yesterday I was in a yoga class during my lunch hour and I thought I recognized a girl in the class but couldn't really remember where I knew her from so I didn't say anything. Then later that night as I was reading my usual sewing blogs, there she was!! It was her! How weird is that. I mean, I knew she was local to this area, but DC isn't exactly a small town. Sadly the class kinda sucked...well, the teacher seemed very sincere, but it totally wasn't my style so I won't be going back and accidentally encounter her again (and maybe even think of something non-stalkerish to say).
I have run into this brand of weirdness as well when I try to describe my blog people "relationships" to my real life friends.
"I have this friend in Boston who runs an on-line fabric store...well, she isn't exactly my friend cause I haven't ever actually met her...but I know more about her than I do some of my co-workers that I see every day....but anyway she is totally great and I would put my faith in any fabric that she sells in her shop....because I know her....well I don't really KNOW her, but....."

This post make me lol.I say this because all the people(other bloggers)I post with(back and forth),I refer as "my friend".So,I'll be chatting away to a co-worker or even my mother and say "oh,my friend,(insert name),was talking about that the other day",or whatever the subjuct seems to be about. Then I have to backtrack and say,"Well,I dont REALLY know her".Then comes 'that look',you know what I mean by 'that look'? As if I spend too much time online and have no life outside of it look lol.
I wonder if you saw Trena.... she takes a yoga class ocassionaly.
I've run into someone at Joann's, the farmer's market and the post office. It's always cool, but vaguely disconcerting.
Although, someone came up to my boyfriend and said she knew him from my blog. That didn't go over well!
Luckily in this little town all my blog friends are real life friends but I've met some blog friends in blog world that we could have crossed path's in our past. That would be weird to run into some in a town the size of DC.
I know, people (such as my mom & MIL) don't get the blog thing. It is cool to have friends who are distant.
Ive never met a fellow blogger but I just heard from an old friend that's been following my blog unbeknownst to me.
By the way, I have just joined Sew craft blog and am in your group!
I am in your SCB group too! The whole blog world is such a funny phenomenon, I had a friend over for dinner tonight who isn't a big internet person and found it really hard to explain actually!
its a small world really....
I'm always on the look out when I'm at any of the G Streets. It seems more likely there. I'm in Alexandra, BTW. And it wasn't me you saw a yoga, I can't tie myself into a knot without permenent damage.
I had a boss who said, "There are only 500 people in the world and at some point you will meet all of them." The older I get the more I believe that is true.
